Thousands protest at Dongguan's largest shoe factory
The protesters are accusing the shoemaker of deceiving staff by giving the same social security benefits to workers who have been with the company for more than 10 years as to casual staff and of signing void labor contracts. The factory has reportedly promised to give staff an official response by April 14 and claims that production has not been affected.

Laid-off steelworkers protest over lack of compensation
300 laid-off steelworkers from the Wugang Iron and Steel factory in Henan province protested last week over lack of compensation following their dismissal. The workers are reported to have marched to the city government offices for help recovering the compensation. However when government officials did not come out to speak with them, the workers blocked a road. The authorities then sent more than two hundred police to forcibly disperse the workers, resulting in several workers being injured.

Globalization Monitor joined the action called by the labor groups from the Philippines and Indonesia in Hong Kong to protest against the malpractices of Adidas and its suppliers yesterday.
